Registration for the 2024/2025 school year will begin in February.

Parents or guardians must submit the following original documentation:
1) Proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate or passport)
2) Proof of guardianship (parents’ or guardians’ as shown on birth certificate or other appropriate legal documentation such as landed immigrant paper or guardianship order). Note that a notarized custodial guardian appointment is not the same as a guardianship order granted by the courts
3) Proof of citizenship for both the parent and the student (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, landed immigrant document, permanent resident card)
4) Proof of residency of the parent or guardian and student. This must include two items, at least one being from Category A below:
Category A: proof of ownership of dwelling or long-term lease or rental of dwelling; legal documents indicating BC residence; parent or guardian filing income tax returns as a BC resident
Category B: BC hydro bill, BC cable bill, Provincial driver’s licence, provincial registration of automobile, Canadian bank accounts or credit cards
5) Immunization records
6) A completed Student Information Form
7) A completed Burnaby School District Medical Information Form
Note: Severe Health Concerns require additional forms. These can be obtained from the school that you are applying to attend.
8) Copy of the student’s most recent school marks (including summer school), such as:
a) an official copy of marks from the student’s Permanent Record Card; or
b) the student’s most recent report card; or
c) a transcript of academic record; or
d) a transfer form with marks
9) An emergency telephone contact number of a local person who is available during school hours
10) The name and telephone number of the family doctor or medical clinic
If any of the above documents are in a language other than English, an official translated version is required

Burnaby School District Registration Forms
Cross-District Transfer
Students whose parents reside in Burnaby and who request to attend a Burnaby school from outside of the school’s designated attendance area must submit a Cross-District Transfer Application. Cross-District applications must be submitted to the requested school during the month of February of the upcoming school year.
- Siblings of continuing students in the school, including those in or accepted to district programs, whose residence falls outside the school’s attendance area
- Students who are registered in and attending before and/or after-school childcare at a licensed childcare facility within an elementary school’s attendance area
- Grade 7 students, who attended an elementary school in their attendance area, which straddles the attendance area of TWO secondary schools, will be given priority for grade 8 enrolment in one of those two secondary schools
- Students not included in 3 above whose residence falls within the attendance areas of other Burnaby schools (cross-district transfers)
- Students whose residence falls outside the Burnaby School District (out-of-district transfers)
In the event of more applicants than program spaces available, applications received within the district’s established registration timelines will be grouped by priority category. Within these categories a lottery method will then be used to determine the order of applicants. See policy 5.05 (section A 5.4) for full details.
Applications received after the district deadlines will be prioritized by application date. Sibling applications that do not meet the district deadlines will be placed after existing on-time sibling applications on the waitlist.
Out-of-District Transfer
Students seeking to attend a Burnaby school whose parents reside outside of the City of Burnaby’s boundaries must submit an Out-of-District Transfer Application. Out-of-district applications must be submitted to the requested school during the month of February of the upcoming school year.
- Siblings of continuing students in the school, including those in or accepted to district programs, whose residence falls outside the school’s attendance area

LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
The district also offers Language Program Options that require an application.
Early French Immersion is a language program option for students entering kindergarten or grade 1.
Mandarin Language Arts is a language program option offered at Forest Grove Elementary for students entering kindergarten through to grade 5.
For Early French Immersion, first find the school that offers this that is located within your designated catchment. Then register at the school designated as your catchment school (regardless of whether they offer french immersion or not) and include with the registration form a district language program application.
Late French Immersion is an option for students entering grade 6. A district language program application must be submitted to the school that offers this program that is located within your designated catchment.
